As a big fan of Escape from New York (and many other films shot in the Big Apple) I was quite excited recently to visit New York for a short break and see some of the locations used from some of my favourite movies.
One location I visited was from the film Ghostbusters, the fire station on the corner of corner of Varick and Moore in Tribeca. The fire station isn’t one of the usual sightseeing spots in NY, such as the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building, but it’s no less spectacular and meaningful. There’s even a sign from Ghostbusters 2 inside the building on the wall.
While I was there I also visited the scene of the World Trade Center, where Snake landed near the beginning of EFNY. That was pretty eerie.
One gripe I did have with New York however was the hotel we stayed at. Even though it was just off Park Lane (which admittedly could mean anywhere) the rooms were extremely small. The rooms were so small in fact that they didn’t even have their own bathrooms – these were shared by everyone on the floor.
That’s perhaps the main difference between the UK and New York; whereas in NY everyone is living on top of each other and space is at a premium, in many areas in the UK you can find hotels with rooms the size of banquet halls. Indeed, in some of the more traditional areas of the UK, such as in Oxfordshire and Cambridgeshire, you’ll find hotel rooms that are in keeping with the traditional ideas of Britain. Some Cambridge hotels that I’ve stayed in for example put our hotel in New York to shame.
Of course, Snake Plissken never visited Cambridge… he went to Cleveland.

I watched Death Proof last week on DVD as I was sent a pre-release check disc. What is Kurt doing? He must have thought that working with Tarrantino would mark his big comeback like it did for Travolta, but whoa.
That film is dreadful. It’s 45 minutes of Hollyoaks standard acting and dialogue, followed by 4 brutal and sudden murders, another 30 minutes of awful chick flick dialogue, a car chase and a beating. Then it ends?
A seriously messed up film by a messed up guy.

Apparently a meeting was held at Paramount with both John Carpenter and Kurt Russell in attendance. The topic — preparing for a third entry in the Escape from New York franchise entitled ESCAPE FROM EARTH. Apparently, Carpenter completed a script for the project eight years ago but the studio has now taken an interest in it after Russell demanded doing it before signing on with the studio for a three picture deal. Although the screenplay is being kept under tight wraps, we’ve been told by somebody who knows this guy who was lucky enough to take a peek at the first few pages that the script takes off immediately where the previous left off and features our planet en-route to Armageddon.

Here are some details on the remake of Escape From New York apparently Len Wiseman (Underwood and Die Harder director) has been penciled in to direct with John Carpenter Exec-producing. Neal Moritz is producing (Prison Break) and Ken Nolan writing the script (Black Hawk Down). Gerald Butler of 300 fame is donning the eye patch as Snake. Now who do you reckon they’ll get for the Duke ? The President ? Brains ? Cabby ? big shoes to fill me thinks. Can’t wait, but I said that about Escape from LA, look how that fuckin ended up.

Being a fan of the classic Escape from New York for many years I felt honour bound to create this website. You’ll find this site will grow as quickly as I can lay off the drink and update it with many Snake related facts, links and images.
If you’re unlucky I may even add the odd bit of info about Escape from LA. That might happen while drunk though.
